Introduction

Toby Heaney, candidate for Senate District 2, is a distinguished academic and military veteran with profound expertise in economics and a steadfast commitment to veterans’ affairs. His extensive background in both academia and military service uniquely positions him as an authority in macroeconomics and veterans-related issues.

Commencing his military career at the age of 17, Mr. Heaney served for 24 years, culminating in a distinguished combat tour during Operation Iraqi Freedom. His tenure was marked by exemplary leadership and an unwavering sense of duty.

Mr. Heaney’s academic pursuits include a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Fairmont State University, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Charleston, and a Master’s degree in Economics from West Virginia University (WVU). Currently, he is engaged in doctoral studies at WVU, where his research focuses on critical macroeconomic subjects, including unemployment and the housing market, as well as issues pertinent to veterans.

Scholarly Advocate

In addition to his academic endeavors, Mr. Heaney is a dedicated advocate for veterans’ well-being. He holds prominent positions in several non-profit organizations, including State Junior Vice Commander for the State of West Virginia – Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Furthermore, he serves as the Legislative Representative for the northern half of West Virginia for the VFW-WV, he presides as the President of the Marion County Veterans Council and is a member of the Marion County Development Authority.
